One-Minute Focus: Quick Reboot

When your thoughts are racing or stress is pulling your attention in ten different directions, you don’t always need a long meditation. Sometimes, one intentional minute is enough to interrupt the spiral and help you feel a little more grounded.

Try It Now

  1. Set a timer for one minute.
Sit or stand somewhere reasonably comfortable. You don’t need complete silence or any special setup.

  2. Choose one thing to focus on.
You might notice the feeling of your breath moving in and out, study an object in front of you, or listen closely to a sound nearby.

  3. Expect your mind to wander.
Thoughts, worries, and distractions will probably show up. That doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong—it’s simply what minds do.

  4. Gently bring your attention back.
Each time you notice that your mind has wandered, return to your breath, object, or sound without criticizing yourself.

When the minute ends, pause and notice whether anything has shifted. You may not feel completely calm—and that isn’t the goal. The practice is simply giving your mind a brief break from following every thought and helping your attention return to where you are right now.
