We’ve all been there—someone says something upsetting, an email triggers frustration, or life throws an unexpected challenge our way. In those moments, it’s easy to react automatically.
But what if we didn’t?
The Space Between Stimulus and Response

Viktor Frankl once said:
"Between stimulus and response, there is space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom."
This space is where self-awareness and emotional regulation live. The more we practice pausing before reacting, the more control we have over our lives.
How to Create Space Before Reacting
✔️ Pause and Breathe – When triggered, take a deep breath. Even a few seconds can help shift your response.
✔️ Name What You're Feeling – Acknowledge your emotion (anger, fear, sadness) without judgment.
✔️ Ask Yourself: What’s the Best Response? – Consider your values and long-term goals before acting.
✔️ Practice Mindfulness – The more present we are in daily life, the easier it becomes to create space in difficult moments.
Freedom Through Choice
Every time we choose how to respond, rather than react, we gain a little more freedom. We are not at the mercy of our emotions—we are in charge of them. And that changes everything.
