A Simple, Powerful Mindset Shift: Reframe Negative Thoughts Using "The 3 Cs"

Try this powerful CBT exercise. Remember, learning exercises is only a tiny bit of the battle. Building new emotional resilience and strength comes from practice and repetition.

1. Catch
Notice when you're having a negative or unhelpful thought. Awareness is the first step. For example, you might think, "I always mess things up."

2. Challenge
 Ask yourself:

  • Is this thought 100% true?
  • What evidence do I have for and against this thought?
  • How would I view this if a friend were saying it about themselves?

Often, you'll find the thought is exaggerated or unhelpful.

3. Change
Replace the negative thought with a more balanced, constructive one. For example:

  • Instead of "I always mess things up," try: "I make mistakes sometimes, but I also succeed and learn from them."

Practice this regularly, and over time, you'll notice a shift in how you perceive challenges, fostering a more positive and resilient mindset.
